PULP & PAPER INDUSTRY

Pulp and paper, a water intensive industry, requires large volumes of water for all major manufacturing stages. It also plays a key role in the utility section like boilers and co-generation plants to generate steam and power. In India, around 905.8 million m3 of water is consumed annually, out of which 77% requires treatment at the end.

Pulp & Paper manufacturing is a highly polluting process and demands substantially high investment to treat wastewater. The wastewater contains high volume of contaminants such as sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, elemental chlorine or chlorine dioxide, sodium sulfide, calcium oxide, bisulfites, hydrochloric acid etc. Furthermore, the effluent is also contaminated with dark brown coloration, adsorbable organic halide (AOX) and other toxic pollutants, which not only pose serious environmental problems but also are very difficult to treat. Due to such a high nature of pollution, the pulp and paper industry in India has been listed as one of the 17 highly polluting industries.

Today, the conventional technologies predominantly incorporate multiple stages of primary, secondary and tertiary processes to treat their wastewater to a certain threshold where it can be reused or safely discharged. This is a cumbersome process and most of the times not very effectively carried out.

Aksharaganga offers solutions based on a patented technology to effectively process the wastewater within discharge norms, which can be reused or safely discharged, at an affordable cost, and in a fully automated process, which is easy to operate. The key benefits of the solution are:

Zero Liquid Discharge

Recycle more than 90% of water

Effective treatment without chemicals (No – chemical process)

Totally automated process with little or no intervention required

Affordable operational cost

COD and BOD reduced by more than 90 %

Single Solution that takes care of removal of all kinds of contamination, odor and color

Inert sludge which is easy to handle and manage
